a b o u t  m e

Hi! My name is Shelby McDonald and I'm entering into the photography world. I was generously gifted a Nikon D3400 in spring 2024  by my older sister, who happens to be a portrait photographer, and have been primarily using the 70-300mm lens. I recently purchased a Nikon D500 and am learning the process there.

If there's one thing you'll always find me doing, it's taking photos. Photos of whatever beautiful scene my eye catches. I'm so grateful my older sister noticed that as well, ultimately placing the camera in my hand and changing my life.

I've always loved the ocean. Recently, I have intentionally and successfully gotten very much involved with it. These past couple of years, I've gotten freediving certified, went on a women's-only freediving trip in Indonesia, and am currently trying to volunteer at The Marine Mammal Center. My husband and I rescued a malnourished elephant seal pup, Finnegan, on our anniversary last year (04/24), igniting the desire to assist these creatures full time. I'll post a section dedicated to her specifically.

Being blessed and privileged to live in the SF Bay Area, I spend my time taking photos along the coast, in the mountains, or in the city. My subjects range from wildlife - with a focus on birds - to architecture, landscapes, and humans doing human things.

When possible, I LOVE to travel. I received my passport in 2022 and so far, my husband and I have managed to visit Mexico City, Ireland, Italy, Indonesia, and Cyprus. These photos will gradually be uploaded overtime, so stay tuned for travel content.
